Huntingdon Racecourse is a thoroughbred racing venue located in the famously beautiful area of Cambridgeshire, England. With a history that dates back to 1886, the racecourse is heavily ingrained in UK horse racing history, having provided the backdrop for many iconic racing moments. Playing host to 17 jump racing meetings each year, the National Hunt venue’s diverse list of fixtures is one of its many attractive qualities. Huntingdon Racecourse is also a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), meaning there are restrictions to the extent the land can be modified.

While having a reputation for hosting an eclectic calendar of fixtures, Huntingdon Racecourse is best known for the Peterborough Chase; a Grade 2 National Hunt chase run by horses aged 4 years and older. The race, which is run over a distance of 2 miles and 4 furlongs, comprises 16 fences and takes place every December.

According to sources, the race was established in 1969 and was initially a 3-mile handicap chase under the name of the Peterborough Handicap Chase. The event wasn't known as the Peterborough Chase until 1979.

The race has run every year without fail aside from in 1982 when it was abandoned due to severe fog. The race’s purse has steadily increased over the years and in 2019 reached an attractive £65,000.

A notable winner of this much-anticipated fixture is Edredon Bleu, who has won the race four times in 1998, 1999, 2000 and 2001. Wayward Lad is another winner worth mentioning, having crossed the line first in the 1981 and 1983 runnings. More recent winners include Racing Demon (2006, 2007) and Top Notch (2017, 2019).
